Subject: Wind Weekend bigger than ever
The UK’s celebrations for European Wind Day will be bigger and better than ever before, according to BWEA. Around 20 wind farms are opening their gates to the public as the UK holds a nationwide Wind Weekend on 14-15th June 2008.
Hundreds of events are taking place across the Continent to mark European Wind Day, which last year attracted over 40,000 people.
Charles Anglin of BWEA said: “We are confident that this year we will open more wind farms than ever before. The British wind industry has gone through a period of huge growth and this should be reflected in how we celebrate European Wind Day.
“In the past, wind farm operators have done much more than just open their gates for tours. Some have booked rock bands and offered attractions like face painting. The events are very popular with families.
“We expect to have more than 20 separate events around the UK and hope as many people as possible will visit their local wind farm to find out more about the technology and the benefits we derive from it.
“Wind farms have a huge role in shaping our energy future and turbines will become a common sight across the country as we move to a low-carbon economy.”

Subject: Wind Weekend launched for 2008
BWEA is joining in the celebrations for European Wind Day by holding a Wind Weekend at sites across the country.
European Wind Day falls on June 14th - 15th 2008 and hundreds of events will be taking place to mark the occasion. Last year, over 40,000 people participated in a hugely successful day.
Charles Anglin of BWEA said: “We are delighted to announce that the UK is taking part in European Wind Day. In fact, we are broadening it out so that this year will be a wind weekend.
“We hope to get over 20 wind farms opened to the public so that visitors can find out more about wind energy and about the contribution it is making to tackling climate change.
“The weekend is a great opportunity for people who have a wind farm development near to them to visit an operational site and see what a wind farm looks and sounds like.
